The challenge

A seamless Shopify app design for a game-changing insurance product

When NTI Insurance, a leading Australian insurer, approached MindArc Digital, they had a visionary idea: to be one of the first to offer a comprehensive parcel protection solution specifically for Shopify merchants.

They needed expertise in Shopify and design to partner with and transform this innovative concept into a user-friendly, highly functional Shopify app design that would not only reflect their brand’s reputation for quality and trust, but also solve a huge problem for e-commerce businesses.

Goal 1

Design a seamless web app experience that would allow merchants, from sole traders to enterprises, easily add parcel protection as an option for their Shopify customers.

Goal 2

We also had to consider NTI’s internal teams, designing a system that would streamline their workflows, minimise manual handling, and automate key processes.

My approach
A user-centric method

As the Design Team Lead for UX, UI, and Creative Strategy at MindArc Digital at the time, my role was to work closely with the Parcel Protect team at NTI and lead the team at MindArc to move this project from a powerful business case to a polished, development-ready design. My process began with a deep dive into the needs of every user. I facilitated structured Discovery sessions with the NTI team, meticulously gathering and visualising information within Figma. This collaborative approach was crucial to ensure we were designing a product that truly solved problemsnot only for the merchants and their customers, but for the NTI staff who would be regularly using the administrative side of the interface, managing the app and continuously improving and monitoring the product after the launch as well.

Collaborative foundational work enabled clear project definition, informed design strategy, identifying key user personas and outlining all necessary deliverables.

Wireframing & user flow

With a clear strategy in hand, we moved into the core architecture of the app. I led the creation of detailed high-fidelity wireframes, focusing on function, hierarchy, and flow.

This step was about mapping every single user interaction to ensure the app was logical, easy to navigate, and compliant with the complex regulatory and business requirements of the insurance industry.

An adaptable & scalable design

The foundational work paid off when it was time to move into visual design. Because the vision for the final product was clear, the wireframes were thorough and the user flows clearly refined, the process of creating the UI was straightforward and efficient. A key challenge for this brand-new product was that the final branding, logo and colour scheme had not yet been fully finalised.Our team designed a flexible, robust style guide that was designed to be easily updated by NTIs internal development team when they were ready.This included a design style guide for all repeating elements, from buttons and fonts to notifications, tables, and menus that could accept different styling.

The outcome

5-star success

Launched in August 2023, the Parcel Protect app has achieved excellent feedback.

It has so far (as of September 10 2025) received all positive 5/5 star reviews on the Shopify App Store; A testament to the quality leadership, development, innovation and well-timed launch by the NTI team as well as the app's intuitive design and the real value it provides to merchants and customers.

Parcel Protect is a game-changer for businesses struggling with parcel claims, and it sets a new standard for innovative digital products in the insurance space.
